Abstract

This paper appraises the failure of leadership and violation of human rights in Nigerian democracy. As a result of our different needs and conflicts of interests, wars, crises and misunderstandings are bound to exist and that is why we have leaders to properly coordinate and harmonise the affairs of man so that there will be tranquillity and conviviality. What constitutes the problem is that leadership has turned to self-service and personal property in Nigeria and leaders now fail to accept responsibility for their followers. In order to give the topic the adequate explanation that it deserves, we
employed phenomenological method. The findings of this work are that avariciousness, rapaciousness and get-rich-quick syndrome are the major causes of leadership failure and violation of human rights in Nigerian democracy. This work establishes that it is only good leadership that can lead to self actualization, self development, vision transmutation, achievement of goals, development of potentialities into actualities and protection of fundamental human rights.
