This study evaluates the effectiveness of Edeh’s educational initiatives in enhancing human capital development in Nigeria. Human capital development is a critical factor in advancing socio-economic growth, reducing poverty, and fostering sustainable development. In Nigeria, educational initiatives have been pivotal in building a skilled and
knowledgeable workforce. Among the key figures in this domain is Emmanuel Mathew Paul Edeh, a renowned Catholic priest, educator, and founder of several educational institutions. This paper critically examines the unique educational philosophy of holistic development, focusing on academic excellence, moral upbringing, and technical skills acquisition.
A mixed-method approach is utilized, involving quantitative surveys of alumni and qualitative interviews with educators. The findings reveal that Edeh’s institutions significantly contribute to improved access to quality education, increased scholarship opportunities, enhanced skills acquisition, and job employability. However, challenges such as sustainability
and scalability of the initiatives were identified. The study concludes with advisory recommendations to enhance the impact of these initiatives, advocating for industry partnerships, and increased funding. Finally, this work contributes to the debate on private education's role in human capital development. It suggests that Edeh’s initiatives be scaled up and
replicate in other contexts to maximize their impacts on human capital development and poverty reduction in Nigeria.
